Top Tips for Keeping your Baby Safe in the Sun.
Whether you’re enjoying the sun on the beach, at the local park or in your back garden, make sure your family are protected from the rays. The hot weather is great (and let’s face, it we’re not going to complain!) but babies and young children are particularly vulnerable in the sun.  So, we’ve put together a list of tips to make the most of the beautiful weather while keeping safe.
Sun cream is a must, not only for children but for adults too! Make sure you’ve applied it at least 15-30 minutes before heading out and every two hours after that. Ensure you’ve covered all of the exposed areas of your little ones body including the easy to miss areas – ears, back of the neck and the tops of feet. Also, use at least factor 15 and choose a broad-spectrum brand. It’s advised that babies under six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight as their skin is too thin and delicate.
Making sure your little one is wearing the correct clothing will ensure they’re safe in the sun. Choose an outfit that is lightweight and light-coloured as this will reflect the heat. Try and choose an outfit that covers their arms and legs too. Here we’ve found some great UV sun suits that are perfect for keeping your little one protected.
A hat is a must in this hot weather. Your baby’s head is very sensitive to the sun so make sure it’s protected. We know sunglasses may seem like a long shot for your little wrigglers, but try and give them a go! Toddlers will love giving them a try if you let them choose their own funky design, just make sure they are UV-protective. Have a look at these ones we found.
Wherever possible try and make sure you get into the shade for a bit. It will keep you cool and out of the sun. But don’t be fooled, even if you are in the shade there is still potential to get sunburned. The suns UV rays are strong so make sure you’ve still got sun cream on.
It’s also worth while ensuring your little one’s pram or stroller has a sunshade for when you are out and about. It’s recommended that you keep your baby in the shade between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm as this is when the sun is at its hottest.
Make it easy
Make it easy for yourself by making sure you always carry sun cream and a hat in your baby bag - you never know when you might need them.
